History
Tynesider was built in 1947 at J Samuel White of Cowes under ON 852 weighing 21 tonnes. She was in service until 1978. She cost £16,367 to build and was funded by the Tyneside Blitz Lifeboat Fund. Originally fitted fitted with twin 4 cylinder ferry ve4 engines, at 40bhp. She was re-engined in 1965 with 65hp 6 cylinder barracudas. She had a stern cockpit shelter and a crew of 8. Served in Newcastle on the Tyne, launching 140 times and saving 150 lives.
Purchased by P McMillan, she has now undergone a full refurbishment, taken back to bare wood, resealed and painted, a new cockpit shelter, engines fully overhauled, new rudder bearings, a vetus 8kw bow thruster. The midships cabin has been converted to a twin bunk with a useable galley. The foreward boyancy chamber has a washroom and head.
As of May 2026, she is undergoing sea trials, and will soon to used in the southeast waters, the River Thames, the Medway and the Channel.
