History
CARIMUDA was built in 1943 by J.S. White & Co. Ltd of Cowes, Isle of Wight as SPECIAL DUTY PINNACE 1272. She is an RAF Special Duties Pinnace MkI. She was allocated to the RAF at Gibraltar, where she served until 1947, when she was transferred to the Ministry of Civil Aviation at Poole. She is copper sheathed, as she was used in hotter climates, and has a hard chine. She was originally fitted with three Perkins S6M diesel engines, with a speed of 13 knots.
In Poole, CARIMUDA was used by Ministry of Civil Aviation at Poole for water control duties supporting BOAC flying boat operations until 1948. It is unknown what the vessel did after this until 1965, when she appears in the British Register, being based in Dover. At this point, she was converted to a live aboard and was fitted with twin Perkins Engines built in 1963. In 1974, she was fitted with twin Perkins T6 354 Diesel engines.
She is currently based in London, and her original copper-cloaked hull as well as her engine workshop remain as original.
